As you can probably guess, I am constantly thinking about our kitchen. I mean, how can I not be?
Recently, DH posed a very good question, “Jen, where is this going to go in the new kitchen?” The “this” he was referring to was actually multiple items. But, it got me thinking, “okay, where in the heck will this go?”
What I am struggling with as I mentally place all of our items back into our new kitchen is the fact that our layout and storage options are much different. I also didn’t particularly like some of our storage practices in the old kitchen {yes, I am talking about that drawer filled to the brim with utensils, or plastic containers, or mixing bowls, or pretty much anything}.
Here are some of the ideas I am thinking about utilizing in some way, shape, or form in our new space:

I have seen many “back of the door” organization options. I really like this one that utilizes hardware. Why? Well, because I have been painstakingly removing all the old hardware from our cabinets hoping that I would find a good use for them.

Tension rods are a very inexpensive way to allow for easier organization of things such as baking sheets, pizza pans, cutting boards, etc. I can also envision some sort of tagging system {if I am going to take the time to organize the kitchen, I want to make sure DH knows where things go the one or two times he MIGHT empty the dishwasher}.

I won’t be able to utilize this system right over the stove {microwave going above the stove, not a wall cabinet}, but I think something like this would be perfect on the wall right next to the stove. How awesome to have my oven mitt RIGHT THERE, ready to go. Also, this week you can get a free towel rod (after rebates) from Menards. Eeek! Otherwise, this tutorial goes on to show you how to use forks {yes forks} to make the hooks the spoons are hanging from.

I like the idea of this….but, I am going to wait until the cabinets are in before I decide to do this {I do not want to put TOO much in}. I am thinking this would be really pretty over our large double window or a door frame. Again, have to wait and see. But, the white dishes would look saaaweeet on the walls. Also, oddly enough, this picture gives you a sneak peek of the color scheme going into our kitchen!

See that bookcase? I want to try and utilize this idea on the backside of our peninsula to store my cookbooks! Plus they used bead board in the back, can you say “destiny”?
