When I am shopping for annuals to plant in my multitude of containers, you can almost make out the words on my lips as I continually {and what I think is “silently”} chant them to myself: thriller, filler, spiller. When planning out your flower containers, even if you know nothing about arranging flowers, just keep these three simple words in mind!
Thriller, Filler, Spiller really is the only plan I have when I go shopping at my local nursery. I keep in mind the number of containers I need to shop for and my main goal is to find TFS for all of them. Last year I bought the same TFS for all of my containers. This year, I gave each container its own color scheme and TFS layout….there was no rhyme or reason in the color scheme among the different containers…..this, my friends, is me living on the edge.
My favorite container ended up using flowers I have never used before, so hopefully it holds out {although I love flowers, and love to plant them, I am also great at killing them}!
Thriller – a decorative spike and Nemesia flowers in what was called “Nessie Plus Purple Pink” on the tag.
Filler – Lantana flowers in “Sunrise Rose”.
The filler was my favorite part of this container. The cute little buds change from pink around the outside to yellow in the middle. Even the tag reads, “Feels like a winner with containers and baskets.”
Spiller – Proven Winner’s Snowstorm Giant Snowflake
Along with this planter, I ended up getting quite a bit of flowers into dirt while Graham pruned the trees in the yard. I apologize for the following floral photo dump, but flowers are just so darn pretty to look at!
This is the first year I have ever planted pansies, so we will see how it goes!
Begonias and impatiens
Yes, I even planted some of my favorite herbs: parsley, basil and cilantro!
Also, we are not sure how the following picture happened {we think it happened while I was frantically trying to save my camera and accidently hit the button}, but I am glad that the moment was captured.
{Let me know in a comment -- What flowers are you planting in containers this year?}
I have the Lantana flowers planted in my big planter as well! I do have a spiller of some sort and lots of other filler, so we on the same page! Just not sure of the names of all the plants...but you can see them when you visit in a few weeks!
