Candlestick Hurricane Displays

Yesterday I gave you the first look at my St. Patty’s day decorations.  Today I want to show you how I created some of those decorations.

I came across the following image while Googling and planning out my decorations:

After reading how EASY these would be to make over on Apartment Therapy, I added candlesticks to my decoration thrifting search list.

I did like how AT created really short hurricanes, but I knew I wanted them as tall as possible as they would be in the background section of my mantel display.

I ended up choosing two different candlesticks while out thrifting and the glass vases that I added to them were from my wedding {aaawwww, I know}.

How did I secure the glass vase to the candlesticks?

With good ‘ol E-6000 glue!  This stuff is AMAZING.  I already had the glue at home, but you can find this anywhere (even Wal-Mart sells it in their craft section).

After I secured the glass vases to the candlesticks, I added the split peas for the additional green pop on my mantel.

And it was as easy as that!  I had plans of adding white candles (like they did over at Apartment Therapy), but the candles I had were too big for the vases.  So, I will just have to remember to buy smaller white candles for next time!

P.S. (DH now hopes split pea soup, with ham, is in our near future…but, we will have to see on that one)
