Goodwill Goodies - Entertainment Center

I feel like I won the lottery at Goodwill this week!

DH and I have been discussing purchasing a new entertainment center for our living room.  We were about ready to fork over a few hundred dollars.  We wanted something that was made of high quality materials so that it would LAST (I am sorry, I am not a big fan of the “furniture” they sell at places like Wal-Mart….it never lasts as long as you would really like it to).

In any case, we just hadn’t gotten around to buying anything yet.  That was until this past week.  I went into Goodwill to begin searching for bits and pieces for my new St. Patty’s Day mantel display and saw this beauty:

I almost couldn’t believe it.  I figured it was going to be hundreds of dollars (yes, even at Goodwill).  Nope, it was only $40.  This piece was the same exact style, color, and shape of what we were looking to buy!

What is wrong with it?  Well, it looks like someone tried to attach something to the top and started to do so by drilling four holes in each of the corners.

Otherwise everything about it was brand spankin’ new.  It even still SMELLED like the furniture store.  So, to save hundreds of dollars, I was willing to live with a minor cosmetic blemish.

I did have a plan to make the holes a bit less noticeable, however.  I used my handy dandy stain pen in dark walnut to color them in.

Obviously you can still see the holes up close, but if you didn’t know they were there, you would probably not notice them.  I can’t even see them from my couch!

Now to buy cute decorations for the shelves!
