It was a Hoot!

Remember me telling you that Graham and I were going to have a blissful vacation from the kitchen this past weekend?  Well, we did, and it was fantastic!

We got to spend the weekend with our good friends celebrating their daughter’s first birthday {she is our god-daughter}.  We also got to spend a small bit of time with my mom and dad, so that was nice as well {a trip back to Glenwood really isn’t complete unless we have a bacon-induced coma by 10 am each morning, compliments of my dad, the chef}.

The theme of the birthday was based around pink {duh} and owls.  I knew my friend {let’s call her Lady A} was creative, but I didn’t know HOW creative she was.  I snapped a few pictures of all the cute things she decorated and added to the party with, and thought I would share them with you.

She made a cute banner that read “Happy 1st Birthday” that hung across the mantel.  Of course she used her Cricut to make this cute banner!  I have constantly been on the fence as to whether or not to get a Cricut for myself {I have a Big Shot right now}.  Usually I end the thought with, “probably not, for now”, but then Lady A always impresses me with the things she can make with hers!

She also used the Cricut to make this adorable birthday hat for the birthday girl.

The Cricut also helped to decorate the cupcake stands.  Lady A bought those disposable cupcake stands {you can get them in any cake decorating section} and then decorated the edges of them with cute cardstock and owl motifs.

Speaking of cupcakes, wait until you feast your eyes on these babies:

Lady A made cupcakes decorated as baby owls for dessert!  She also had the “momma owl” made out of about 20 cupcakes, but by the time I started snapping pics, the momma was unassembled {insert your sad, disappointed look here}.

I did get to help Lady A make the cupcakes the night before, however, so I can divulge the details.

The wings were made out of chocolate wafers {carefully cut by yours truly}.  The beaks were circus peanuts cut down into little triangles.  The eyes were peach-io rings topped with M&Ms {colors carefully sorted by, you guessed it, yours truly}.  There were also brown sprinkles and shredded coconut adorning the tops of each cupcake as a part of the owl’s body.  Super cute, wouldn’t you say?

Whoooooo knows where she found these {get it?  Ha!}, but they were the icing on the cake as far as decorations go.

The cherry on top of that icing?  The way she displayed G’s 1-year pictures that she had done previous to the day of the party:

Simple twine string and baby-sized clothespins were all it took to make an adorable display as you filled your plate with equally amazing food {you will just have to trust me on the food, but it was deeeelish}.

I also happened to snap a few pics of the birthday girl herself:

{with the help of my dad, this was a part of our gift to G – a little red wagon to toodle around in…..this particular portion of our gift also made us discover how much of a wagon-hoarder my dad is.  So, if you need a little red wagon, I got this}

Happy 1st Birthday to my precious little god-daughter…here’s to many more!
