Remember how I mentioned I learned to use wood putty in this post while working on a space in our home?
Well, that “in-between” wall is now finished! This wall was in-between our dining room and kitchen and I wanted it to be its own space (since it wasn’t really the kitchen and it wasn’t really the living room). With that said, I knew I had to do something that would coordinate with both rooms and provide a good transition.
Before it was painted with the same faux finish as the living room (in a color I hate looking at, mind you):
I knew I wanted to paint this wall a neutral color to coordinate with the kitchen and what I have planned for the living room color. However, since I needed such a small amount of paint, and we have almost thirty gallons of partially used paint in the basement, I was not about to go buy new paint!
My genius self thought it would be a good idea to mix a custom color. It worked here, so I figured, “why not?” I really liked a color of paint that I had almost an entire gallon of paint of….but, I also had 1/8 of a gallon in another neutral color. I also just happened to have an empty paint container (we have been trying to transfer our paints to those plastic, pourable, screw top paint containers you can buy at Menards).
My thinking was that I could take that 1/8 gallon, add it to the color I liked anyways (in the empty container) and then later on just mix all the rest of the color I liked and paint the the kitchen with it (thinking the two custom mixed colors, then, should coordinate).
However, this process was an epic fail I did NOT like how this color turned out. So, now I have a gallon of this new color that I am not sure what to do with, and am left with only a smaller amount of the color I actually like (that will now not be enough to paint the kitchen wall with). I ended up painting the in-between wall with the color that I liked and will just figure out the kitchen later.
What I did go buy new for the wall was some bead board paneling and a piece of chair rail. I painted both white (just a basic white in a satin finish).
I had DH cut the pieces to size (I am not quite brave enough to use the saw), but then adhered the paneling and chair rail with some construction adhesive.
I finished the wall off with a vinyl I got from Stampin’ Up!
In total, this little revamp cost me a total of $30. I’ll take it!
nice!!
